FEAR & YODA

Yoda famously says that “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering”. He also advises Anakin Skywalker to “train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose,” as a way to combat these negative emotions.

The Bible teaches that fear is not of God, but of power, love, and self-control & tells believers not to fear because God is with them, strengthening and helping them.

Anakin / Darth Vader
Similarities between Darth Vader and Jesus often cited are their roles as “Chosen Ones,” miraculous births, tragic falls from grace, and ultimate redemption through sacrifice. Both Anakin Skywalker and Jesus are foretold as figures of prophecy who fall into darkness (Vader’s fall to the dark side, Jesus descending into Hell for three days) before ultimately redeeming themselves by destroying a great evil (Vader killing the Emperor, Jesus conquering death).

Subverting expectations: Both figures subvert the expectations of those around them. Jesus’ disciples expect a military leader, but he embraces peace and love instead, says cultureandchrist.com. Similarly, Anakin’s path to fulfilling the prophecy is contrary to the Jedi’s expectations.

Thematic parallels
